Consumers demand index demonstrates positive trend
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Expectations of consumers in upcoming six months (second and third quarter of 2011) on increasing their expanses for goods and services are sustainable enough, according to the Consumers demand index, which was published by Institute for forecasting and macroeconomic research under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan.

State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan calculated Consumer demand index (CDI) for first quarter of 2011 based on polling, conducted in March 2011. The committee also compared date to previous quarters to analyze change of current and expected CDI, as well as determining factors, impacting to consumer demand, optimism on future income and prices, property well-being and saving potential of households.

CDI grew by three points from 132 in the first quarter of 2010 to 135 points in the same period of 2011. Expectations of consumers in upcoming six months (second and third quarter of 2011) on increasing their expanses for goods and services are sustainable enough.

The highest CDI in the first quarter was for consumer goods (156), expensive goods of long-term use (141), construction materials (140). Private demand index for services made up 122. Largest indicators of the index were observed for transport services (127), communication services (123), family events organization services (123).

Private index of expected demand for food products also grew from 149 in the first quarter of 2010 to 156 in the first quarter of 2011. Compared to the corresponding period of 2010, the expected demand grow for meat, poultry, milk (+24 points) and products from them (+12 points), eggs (+39 points), confectionery (+17 points), fish and sea products (+14 points).

In March 2011, the highest indexes of expected demand for food products were observed for meat, milk and products from them (156), eggs (151), confectionery (140), flour and bread products (137). This fact shows high demand to these products and necessity to expand their production locally.

Active construction and repair of habitations by households explains growth of demand for construction materials, as well as for furniture, carpets, household and kitchen products, which are required for equipment of new house. In April-September 2011, about 8.4% households are planning to buy land, 4.5% - buy house or apartment, 17.4% - start or continue to build house, 30.7% - make current or capital repair of habitation.

In the result of polling in March 2011, private indexes of expected demand for everyday and long use goods, construction materials and services remained unchanged as in the same period of 2010. In April-September 2011, 33% of responders are planning to increase demand for everyday goods, 31% - for luxury products of long-period use, 40% - for construction materials and 20% for services.

Index of expected growth of income of households in the first quarter of 2011 made up 165 and grew by three points compared to the same period of 2010. Index of expected changes for prices reached 150, which is three points down.

State policy on increasing paying capacity of population introduction of new objects on production of consumer goods, construction of roads and service infrastructure, as well as other measures allowed to increase spending of households to all types of goods and services. Current index of consumers demand rose by 7 points from 125 in 1Q 2010 to 132 in 1Q 2011.
