Construction of a 20 MW Charvak Wind Power Plant Launched in Bostanlyk District

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Construction has begun on the 20 MW Charvak Wind Power Plant in the Bostanlyk district of the Tashkent region.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held on July 30 with the participation of representatives from China, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy, Uzbekhydroenergo JSC, local authorities, and the public.

The project is being implemented with the support of the Department of Commerce of China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The plant is designed to generate around 50 million kWh of electricity annually, enough to supply approximately 20,000 households. The general contractor is China’s TBEA Co., Ltd.

China is providing $28 million in grant assistance for the project, with completion scheduled for 2026.

Once operational, the plant will save an estimated 811,100 cubic meters of natural gas or 3,150 tons of coal each year — a contribution of significant environmental and economic value.

It is worth noting that back in 2017, Uzbekhydroenergo launched Uzbekistan’s first pilot wind energy facility with a capacity of 750 kW. The new project marks a logical continuation of the country’s efforts to expand the production of clean, renewable energy.
