Conference in Urgench: maternal and child health care – the latest knowledge

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Healthcare in the regions of Uzbekistan, in particular, maternal and child health, can and should be at the level of the latest knowledge and skills based on evidence-based medicine.

This was once again proven by the scientific and practical conference “Outpatient care for women in Uzbekistan: problems and solutions” held on 17 May in Urgench.

Opening the forum, the head of the Main Department of Maternal and Child Health Protection of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan Feruza Fazilova, the director of the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Maternal and Child Health Natalya Nadyrkhanova, and the director of the Khorezm branch of the RSNPMCZmiR Salomat Matyakubova addressed the participants.

As noted in the speech of Natalya Nadyrkhanova, modern standards for the management of pregnant women are aimed at eliminating polypharmacy, that is, prescribing an excessive amount of medications, avoiding unreasonable and unnecessary diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Every time a pregnant woman visits a doctor, a thorough assessment of risk factors for obstetric complications and implementation of preventive measures to reduce these risks is necessary. It is their early detection by family doctors, obstetricians-gynecologists and visiting midwives on site and the timely referral, if necessary, of patients to institutions of the 2nd-3rd level obstetric care system that guarantee reduction of risks to the health of mothers and new generations of citizens of the country.

The participants of the regional conference were about 180 specialists from primary healthcare institutions of the obstetric system of Khorezm, Samarkand, Bukhara, Surkhandarya, Andijan regions and the Republic of Karakalpakstan. They are the ones who provide prenatal care services, the quality of which directly affects the condition of the woman and the unborn child. Therefore, expert reports were heard and discussed at the conference, the main goal of which was to familiarize doctors in the region with the best domestic and world clinical practices and the latest international standards for the care of pregnant women.

Particular attention was paid to the recommendations of national clinical protocols and standards for the management of pregnant women, including high-risk groups.

For the first time such a regional conference was organized last year in Fergana and taking into account the high interest of doctors in the regions of Uzbekistan, it was decided to hold it on an annual basis.

In modern healthcare in Uzbekistan, prenatal or antenatal care includes not only counseling, medical examination, prevention and treatment of pregnant women, but also their education.

Today, the antenatal care system includes specialists such as a family doctor, obstetrician-gynecologist, midwife, and visiting nurse (medical teams).

The closest attention was paid to improving their qualifications due to the fact that antenatal care is an important component of medical care provided by primary health care organizations to prevent pregnancy complications and provide timely assistance to women in the event of emergency conditions.
