Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Within the framework of the visit of the President of the Islamic Development Bank Group Dr. Bandar Hajjar to Uzbekistan from 17 September to 20 September, a conference “Day of the IDB Group” was held in Tashkent with the participation of ministries and departments of Uzbekistan, representatives of the private sector, diplomatic corps and international financial institutions of Uzbekistan.

On 19 September, a round table with the participation of the Arab funds of the Coordination Group will take place. The organizer of these events is the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Investments.

The conference was opened by Sukhrob Holmuradov, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Investments, who is also the Manager of the Islamic Development Bank Group from the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Then the President of the Islamic Development Bank Bandar Hajjar delivered a speech.

The main goal of the conference “Day of the IDB Group” is a broad presentation of the new IDB Partnership Strategy with the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2018-2021 and discussion of the 4-year indicative Cooperation Program.

The Republic of Uzbekistan became a full member of the IDB on September 3, 2003. However, the first experience of cooperation began in 1992 with the allocation of grant funds to the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Uzbekistan for a total of US$1.4 million.

Over the years of cooperation between Uzbekistan and IDB, 17 projects worth US$926 million have been realized, with the use of IDB loans amounting to US$665 million. Today at the implementation stage, there are 9 projects for a total of more than US$1 billion, of which US$840 million is the IDB resources.

On the eve of the conference "Day of the IDB Group", on September 17, Dr. Bandar Hajjar visited a number of facilities in Tashkent and Tashkent region, which were included in the cooperation program with the participation of the Bank. The head of the IDB visited the project sites for the housing construction program in Yik-ota district of Tashkent region, the Republican Oncology Center, and also met with the faculty and students of the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan.

The key direction of the IDB’s activity is financing of infrastructure and socially significant projects, mainly in such areas as agriculture (irrigation and melioration), education, health, water supply, infrastructure development and other areas.
