Competitive advantages of the regions of Uzbekistan in terms of export of goods and services

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- IPMI experts grouped exports of goods and services from regions according to the degree of redistribution.

The study used the methods of comparative analysis, the RCA index (Revealed comparative advantage), which makes it possible to reveal the territorial features and characteristics of the export of goods and services.

According to the results of the study, the export of goods and services is classified into 4 groups according to the degree of redistribution: resources (mineral, non-food, agricultural), industrial processing products (chemical, metallurgical, textile), high value-added products (electrotechnical, mechanical engineering, pharmaceutical), service (services) .

A significant part of Uzbekistan's exports falls on industrial processing products (34.9%). This is mainly due to the export potential of the textile industry (the main exporters are Andijan, Namangan, Tashkent, Ferghana regions, Tashkent city) and metallurgy (Tashkent region, Tashkent city).

Export of resources (16.5%) - mineral (Tashkent, Bukhara region), non-food raw materials (Navoi, Tashkent regions, Tashkent city) and agricultural products (Samarkand, Tashkent, Ferghana regions) - is due to the presence of hydrocarbon raw materials, coal, fruits and vegetables, which are in high demand in the world market.

Export of products of high added value of Uzbekistan, which accounts for 5.3% of the country's exports, is formed mainly due to the electrical industry (Tashkent, Tashkent region), pharmaceutical (Tashkent, Syrdarya, Tashkent, Samarkand regions), machine-building (Andijan, Samarkand region, Tashkent) industries.

The assessment of competitive advantages revealed the following features of the territories:

- most regions of the country have the potential to export resources, in particular non-food raw materials (in 11 regions RCA ≥ 1,000) and agricultural products (in 10 regions); industrial processing products - textile products (in 11 regions), which indicates a positive state of territorial export diversification;

- there is a one-sidedness in the export of high value-added goods, especially electrical and engineering products (RCA ≥ 1,000 in 1-2 regions), as well as services, which requires the development of issues of rational territorial distribution of export-oriented industries;

- in expanding the export of high value-added goods, there are potential opportunities in the Jizza, Namangan, Tashkent (export of electrical products, where 0.700 ≤ RCA < 1.000), Syrdarya (engineering) regions.

In general, the regions of Uzbekistan have ample opportunities and reserves for export growth due to the deep processing of local natural and raw materials, as well as the development of the production of high-tech innovative types of goods and services.
