Currently, NGOs are assisting the government of Uzbekistan in achieving MDGs. They are operating in education, healthcare, ecology, sport, culture, and others.

The experts underline that National Association of Nongovernment and Noncommercial Organizations of Uzbekistan (NANNO) played great service. The association carried out several important socially important projects in last five years. NANNO consolidates and coordinates efforts of NGOs, working in Uzbekistan.

The association realized four state social orders in Uzbekistan in 2009. The Fund on support of NGOs and other civil society institutions under the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan approved the projects.

So, currently several NGOs are working in education sphere within the MDGs. They are working on improvement of education quality in primary and secondary schools. In particular, the project on creating audio lessons for visually impaired children with attraction of international organizations was implemented in Uzbekistan.

One of the important tasks of the MDGs is improving maternal health. The association and women NGOs organized and held events on reproductive health of women. At the same time, information campaigns were conducted to fight HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria. The association also conducted joint project with EU’s PRISON programme to tackle drugs spread in jails.

NANNO also participates in preparation of national reports on implementation of Uzbekistan’s international obligations in protection of human rights, children and women. This work is also conducted within the achievement of MDGs – promoting gender equality. The association implements national programme within the CEDAW project and other projects.

The association and its members pay special attention to ecology issues. Within the project “Water for life”, five villages in Ferghana and Tashkent regions received access to clean water.
