Citizens who extorted money for a “quiet life” were detained in Khorezm

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 9 June 2023, 38-year-old I.U., having applied to the head of the district Department of Internal Affairs, explained that 36-year-old M.B. and 30-year-old M.E. began to demand money from him in exchange for his quiet life, otherwise, they threatened to damage his property. 

So, from 6 December 2022 to February 2023, they received 58 million soums from him, and despite this, from 6-8 June, they began to demand another US$10,000 by calling him. In addition, they promised to take away his vehicles if he did not give them this money. In this regard, the author of the application requested that legal measures be taken. 

On the basis of this statement, employees of the Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Operative Investigative Service of the Regional Department of Internal Affairs carried out an operational event, during which the above persons were detained with material evidence in the Ilhomboy cafe located on Mustakillik Street, Gurlen District, upon receipt from the applicant US$10,000.

In fact, the Investigation Group at the Department of Internal Affairs of the Gurlensky District in relation to M.B. and M.E. a criminal case was initiated under paragraphs “b, c” of part 2 of article 165 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan, a preventive measure related to arrest was applied.

An investigation into this case is underway.
