CIS: Uzbekistan’s elections held at high technical standards

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Elections in Uzbekistan are becoming increasingly organized and conducted at a high technical standard, said Sergey Lebedev, Secretary General of the CIS and head of the CIS observer mission, during a briefing summarizing the election results.

"We received a comprehensive and objective assessment of election preparations. With each phase, elections become more organized and meticulously prepared, indicating a rise in the competence of all structures responsible for the electoral process," Lebedev stated.

"Polling stations were set up in suitable venues such as schools, cultural centers, and business centers, and were equipped with informative materials, including candidate biographies. The media actively covered the electoral campaign, and thorough preparations contributed to the successful conduct of the elections," he added at the press conference in Tashkent.

Lebedev further noted that voters are displaying a higher level of political maturity. "While previous elections often favored populists, citizens now evaluate candidates more judiciously. Current candidates possess higher education and substantial life experience," he highlighted.

Based on observations, the CIS mission concluded that the elections were transparent, competitive, and open.

"The elections were conducted in full accordance with the Constitution and the electoral laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan," stated the CIS Secretary General.

He also noted that observers did not record any complaints or significant violations during the elections.

"No issues were observed when visiting polling stations. The elections for deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis were conducted strictly in line with the Constitution and the Electoral Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. They were open, competitive, and fair, ensuring the free expression of citizens’ will," Lebedev concluded.
