Uzbekistan 25/12/2007 CIS mission: presidential elections free, open and transparent
Head of the mission, chairman of the CIS Executive Committee and CIS executive secretary Sergey Lebedev read the statement of the mission on the results of the monitoring of the elections of the President of Uzbekistan.

The mission included 79 international observers representing executive and election bodies of the CIS member states, as well as EurAsEC and the CIS Executive Committee. The monitoring of the election process started on 10 December.

The mission staff was based in Tashkent, with branches in Bukhara, Samarkand and Ferghana. During the period of monitoring, the observers visited 1,207 voting stations, including 703 on the election day, in Andijan, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Samarkand, Tashkent and Ferghana regions, as well as in the city of Tashkent.

In its statement, the CIS observers mission noted that all required conditions for international and internal monitoring of the elections and voting processes were created in Uzbekistan.

The activity of election commissions of all levels was open and transparent, the statement reads. Observers participated in the sessions of the central and district election commissions.

The election campaign was held within the legal and ethical norms, the mission stated, calling the elections free, open and transparent, UzA said.
