CIS leaders discuss cooperation in Minsk summit
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A session of the Council of the heads of the states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Minsk, Belarus, on 10 October 2014.

Presidents considered about 15 issues, related to further developing inter-state cooperation in security, humanitarian and other spheres.

The CIS leaders adopted the address to the international community in connection with the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The document said that the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the World War II is a holy day and symbolizes selflessness and heroism of the people, who ensured victory over fascism. The document calls to fight attempts to glorify Nazism and reanimation of fascism, spread xenophobia and racism.

The CIS leaders adopted a decision on implementation of inter-state programme “Cultural capitals of the Commonwealth” in Russia and Tajikistan in 2015, announcing Voronej and Kulyab as the cultural capitals of the CIS in 2015.

The CIS leaders announced a decision to announce 2016 as the Year of Education in the Commonwealth, which will help to boost cooperation in this area among member-states. The Presidents entrusted the governments and CIS bodies to carry out necessary preparation works to hold the Year of Education.

The CIS Presidents adopted a statement on preserving and strengthening of international system of control over narcotics. The CIS leaders condemned legalization of narcotics.

The leaders of the CIS states approved a programme of cooperation in the CIS area against illegal migration for 2015-2019. The programme is directed ate developing and implementing agreed migration policy and corresponding legal base for cooperation in this area, improving border and migration control, holding joint operations, etc.

The CIS Leader signed an agreement on order of forming and using joint group of specialists of border forces of rapid response to threats to external borders of the Commonwealth.

The summit also discussed execution of the plan of main measures on realization of the Concept on further development of the CIS. It was underline d that the plan was executed and it is necessary to continue to implement the Concept.

The CIS leaders decided that Kazakhstan will chair the organization in 2015, while Belarus and Kyrgyzstan will be co-chairs.

Next summit of the CIS leaders will be held in Astana, Kazakhstan, in autumn 2015.
