Uzbekistan 23/04/2009 CIS air defence forces hold command-post exercise

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- About 120 aircraft and helicopters were involved in a command-post exercise which was held on Tuesday, 21 April, as part of the Combined Air Defence System of CIS countries, Interfax reported.

"MiG-31 and Su-27 fighters, Su-24 front-line bombers, Su-25 ground attack aircraft, Mi-8 helicopters, aircraft of military-transport aviation, as well as A-50 airborne early warning aircraft were involved in the exercise," Interfax-AVN was told on Wednesday by the aide to the commander-in-chief of the Russian Air Force, Lt-Col Vladimir Drik.

Su-27 and MiG-31 aircraft flew over from country to country from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, he said.

Troops of air defence, Air Force and air defence, air defence forces of the eight members of the commonwealth, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, took part in the exercise.

The exercise was held according to a plan of joint events of the Combined Air Defence System of the CIS. Issues of control of the alert air defence forces of the CIS, in carrying out tasks of combat alert duty when aircraft have been hijacked by terrorists and others, were practiced during the exercise.
