Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 17 October, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty and the 7th National Day for the Eradication of Poverty were celebrated. 

On 19 October, at a regular departmental press conference, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian pointed out that China’s fight against poverty is of great importance for the world. China has made a significant contribution to accelerating global poverty reduction and supporting the global cause of poverty reduction.

Zhao Lijian noted that over the past 40 years since the beginning of the reform and opening-up policy, China has contributed more than 70% to global poverty reduction. According to the World Bank, a total of 800 million Chinese have been lifted out of poverty. This year, China will implement a plan to eradicate poverty in villages. China may 10 years earlier to implement the first point of the UN Sustainable Development Goals for the period up to 2030.

Zhao Lijian noted that one of these days China will publish the report "Elimination of absolute poverty - the practice of China", in which the PRC will share its experience in the field of poverty reduction with the international community. The bottom line is that China is making efforts not only to reduce internal poverty, but also provides all possible support to developing countries.

Zhao Lijian pointed out that China is continuously deepening the alignment of the Belt and Road Initiative with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. According to the World Bank’s report, the implementation of the program of integrated development of joint construction "One Belt and One Road" will help 7.6 million people get rid of extreme poverty, 32 million people - from poverty at the average level.

Through multilateral and bilateral channels, China helps developing countries improve their development capacity and supports international cooperation in poverty reduction.
