Officials of Uzbekistan and China
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A Chinese delegation led by Vice Foreign Minister Li Hui has visited Uzbekistan.

The high-profile Chinese diplomat took part in a regular round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries. Despite his busy schedule, Li Hui gave an interview to the Jahon news agency:

"Speaking about cooperation between our countries, I would like, above all, to say that China and Uzbekistan are friends, our cooperation has centuries long history. After establishing diplomatic relations, our cooperation has been stepped up. Very warm and trust-based relations make up the solid foundation of our intergovernmental cooperation, which is established by our heads of state. This gives a renewed impetus to the development of our future all-round cooperation. Uzbek President Islom Karimov visited China several times, as well as Chinese President Hu Jintao visited Uzbekistan too," Li Hui said.

"Currently, we are satisfied with the development and expansion of our relations not only in the political but also in the economic, trade, business, culture, humanitarian and education spheres. Our people have friendly relations. They strive to expand and strengthen the trust-based relations. And we believe that this is the best foundation for deepening cooperation in many spheres," he said.

Trade between the two countries increased by 50%; there are plans to bring trade to US$1.5 billion by 2010.
