China welcomes UN Security Council resolution on COVID-19 vaccination - PRC Foreign Ministry

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The UN Security Council recently unanimously adopted a resolution on vaccination against COVID-19, stressing the need to strengthen international cooperation in the field of vaccines so that all countries and regions of the world, including those with unstable and conflict-ridden areas are guaranteed and equally able to receive the vaccines available to them. This is the embodiment of the importance of the UN Security Council, China welcomes it, said today the spokesman for the PRC Foreign Ministry Wang Wenbin.

The diplomat, answering journalists’ questions during a regular briefing, noted that the Chinese side is constantly taking concrete steps to implement the statement by Chinese President Xi Jinping that vaccines against COVID-19 are a global public good. China has joined the front ranks of the World Health Organization / WHO / Global Collaboration to Accelerate Development, Production and Equitable Access to New Tools for the Prevention and Control of the COVID-19 Epidemic, actively developing collaboration in vaccine research and development with more than 10 countries. and also joined and supported the New Coronavirus Vaccine Implementation Plan / COVAX / to promote equitable distribution.

At the request of WHO, Wang Wenbin continued, the Chinese side decided to provide 10 million doses of domestic vaccine under COVAX, mainly to meet the urgent need for developing countries.

China has also decided to join a friendly group of peacekeepers to distribute COVID-19 vaccines and donated vaccines to UN peacekeepers.

“China will continue to work together with all parties to strengthen cooperation in vaccines, epidemic prevention and control, and various other areas, in order to collectively win the ultimate victory in the global fight against COVID-19,” Wang Wenbin said.
