China Southern Power Grid acquires stake in Bash and Jankeldi wind power plants

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Chinese company China Southern Power Grid has acquired a stake in Uzbekistan’s Bash and Jankeldi wind power plants, as well as the related transmission line project.

The share transfer ceremony took place on 16 July in Tashkent, as reported by the Xinhua News Agency.

Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, noted that since January of this year, the relations between Uzbekistan and China have been elevated to the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership in a new era. He emphasized Uzbekistan’s readiness to continue strengthening mutual respect, understanding, and support, as well as to facilitate more effective practical cooperation in all areas.

Tang Yifeng, Deputy General Director of China Southern Power Grid, highlighted that under the leadership of the two countries’ leaders, China and Uzbekistan are promoting the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative. The company hopes to implement a number of leading, sustainable, and mutually beneficial projects in the field of green energy in collaboration with its partners.

The Bash and Jankeldi wind power plants, located in the Bukhara region of Uzbekistan, have a combined installed capacity of 1 million kW. This largest wind power project by installed capacity in Central Asia is being implemented by China Southern Power Grid in cooperation with Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power.

The project is scheduled to be operational by 2025, which will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.6 million tons annually after its completion.
