China Eximbank May Finance Construction of Toll Roads in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 20 June, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Transport Ilkhomjon Abdugafarov held talks with a delegation led by Chen Huaiyu, Chairman of the Export-Import Bank of China.
The two sides exchanged views on key areas of reform in Uzbekistan’s transport sector and discussed promising projects to modernize transport infrastructure and upgrade the vehicle fleet with the support of the Chinese financial institution.
Particular attention was given to financing the construction of toll roads along the Tashkent–Samarkand and Tashkent–Andijan routes, as well as the implementation of a separate high-speed railway line between Tashkent and Samarkand.
The discussions also included initiatives for the purchase of modern buses aimed at expanding and renewing the public transport fleet in Tashkent and across the regions to improve service quality for the population.
During the meeting, the parties reviewed the progress of preparations and coordination of a loan agreement between Uzpromstroybank and China Eximbank for the purchase of 200 electric buses. They also discussed the potential implementation of a large-scale project for the acquisition of an additional 1,000 buses.
