Chery plans to invest 100 billion yuan on innovation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Chinese automaker Chery plans to invest 100 billion yuan (US$13.86 billion) in the development of innovative technologies over the next five years. This was announced at the company’s CEO Theme Conference in Wuhu (China).

At the conference, Chery Group management presented its plans and vision for the development of the automotive market and the company, as well as sub-brands, including the EXEED brand.

Chery Group Chairman Yin Tongyue opened the conference and announced cooperation between Chery, EXEED and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to promote sustainable development and technological progress.

Chery also unveiled its first flying saucer-shaped drone and demonstrated interaction with a robot dog, confirming its commitment to artificial intelligence research.

The company believes that these innovations will change the quality of life through robotic and unmanned technologies that will soon become available around the world.

During the Chery 2024 Global Dealer Co-Creation Conference, Chery Group Chairman Yin Tongyue charted the path for Chery’s future in the rapidly changing global automotive landscape.

In his speech, he outlined the company’s strategy for its brands, which are aimed at various consumer segments of the international market.

The arrival of the Omoda and Jaecoo brands in Europe confirms this approach and Chery’s ability to tailor its vehicles to local requirements.

Chery Group Chairman Yin Tongyue announced the company’s plans to invest 100 billion yuan in technology innovation to ensure Chery’s sustainable development over the next five years.

These funds will be used to develop eight global research centers and more than 300 YaoGuang’s laboratories. This will strengthen Chery’s research capabilities around the world, with a focus on developing electric and hybrid technologies, integrating artificial intelligence and improving production processes to reduce environmental impact.

Yin also emphasized the company’s commitment to product excellence across various aspects of the consumer experience. He stated, “To enhance our brand, we are committed to creating the highest quality products through our systems and processes across seven dimensions: IQS, APEAL, Reliability, SSI, TXI, Application of New Technologies and Product Improvement.”

This initiative aims to improve every aspect of car ownership, from initial purchase to long-term satisfaction, to ensure Chery products continually exceed global standards.

Yin emphasized the importance of the company’s philosophy of integration and mutual growth, saying, "Our philosophy is cooperative and win-win cooperation, investing in the host country, taking root in the country to become a local corporate citizen." This approach not only expands Chery’s global presence, but also strengthens its commitment to making a positive contribution to the local economy and society.

Emphasizing the long-term vision of this collaboration, he said: “We will continue to strengthen our partnership with IUCN to ensure sustainable conservation efforts.” This ongoing commitment ensures long-term impact by addressing pressing environmental issues.

As Chery enters new markets, the CSR strategy evolves and adapts. “As we enter many new markets such as Europe, we define ESG as compliance, excellence and sustainability,” said Charlie Zhang. Chery is integrating its ESG practices into its business expansion plans, ensuring that growth in new markets is accompanied by responsible practices that meet the highest standards of ethical and environmental compliance.

At the conference, it was noted that Chery is one of the leading car manufacturers and exporters in China. In 2023, the company produced more than 1.88 million vehicles, of which more than 973,140 were exported. Overall, Chinese companies exported 4.1 million vehicles in 2023.

Company representatives noted that despite the significant export volume, Chery and its sub-brands, including EXEED, are not available in some markets. The company plans to expand its presence in key markets and consider the possibility of organizing car production abroad.

Zhang Guibing noted that the company plans to introduce new car models under the Chery, EXEED, Omoda and Jaecoo brands using traditional, hybrid and electric engines.

The head of Chery International also added that the company will develop the ecosystem. In his opinion, in the future, 70% of sales will come from cars, and the remaining 30% from additional goods and services.

Chery International has developed various products for customers that will be useful during vehicle operation and outdoor activities. In addition, the company has developed a service that will support car owners by providing services for purchasing and delivering cars, lending or leasing, selling vehicles and much more.
