Chamber of Commerce and Industry sums up 2012 results
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A session of Central Council of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan was held in Tashkent, the press service of the organization said.

The session, which was headed by chairperson of the chamber Alisher Shayhov, summed up activities of the organization in 2012 and plans for 2013.

It was noted that Uzbekistan adopted several laws, which improve doing business in Uzbekistan, ensure sustainable development of economy, form favourable business and investment environments. In particular, Uzbekistan adopted law “on protection of private property and guarantee of proprietors’ rights”, law “On family business”, law “On competition”, etc.

It was underlined that share of small businesses in economy is increasing. Share of small businesses in economy of Uzbekistan reached 54.6% in 2012, in industry – 22.2%. The exports volume rose by 11.6%. Share of small businesses in exports hit 15.8%. The volume f attracted internal and foreign investments grew by 14% year-on-year in 2012.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan carried our wide-scale work on implementation of tasks, directed at developing small and private businesses in the country. The chamber participated in development of 116 legal documents in 2012.

It was stated that 34,488 businesses participated in “Days of entrepreneurs”. The Chamber received 9,905 applications and 90% of them were solved.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan created Center of monitoring and Call Center to ensure implementation of legal acts.

Representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan participated in inspections of 1,680 business entities, of which 1,509 (89.8%) were planned inspections and 171 (10.2%) – unplanned inspections. In the reporting period, the chamber submitted 21,938 applications to courts for total sum of 928.5 billion soums and US$45.6 million.

In 2012, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan helped 171 businesses to find and purchase mini-technologies and equipment for US$12.8 million. It also helped to create 49 enterprises with foreign investments in 2012.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan organized 96 exhibition events, which attracted 5,889 Uzbek and foreign businesses, as well as 219,788 visitors. Representatives of Germany, India, Iran, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Malaysia, and China participated at the 55 exhibitions and fairs.

The session noted that the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan organized various training courses, seminars and educational programmes for businesses in 2012. Some 128 businesses participated in short-term educational programmes in foreign countries.

As of 1 January 2013, number of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan members reached 22,797, which grew by 1,527 compared to 2012.

At the end of the session, the participants adopted a corresponding decision.
