Chairperson of the Senate receives the Ambassador of Iran to Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 4 April, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Uzbekistan Muhammadali Iskandari.

The sides discussed the current state and prospects for the development of relations between Uzbekistan and Iran, in particular the issues of strengthening cooperation in the political, trade, economic and investment spheres, as well as inter-parliamentary relations.

It was noted that regular meetings and mutual visits between state leaders played an important role in expanding ties in various fields.

Trade turnover in 2023 amounted to US$503.4 million, but this does not correspond to the potential of the two countries, so the possibility of increasing it was discussed.

It was also noted that there are unrealized opportunities for cooperation in the field of transport logistics, medicine and pharmaceuticals, technical engineering, science and technology. Projects in these areas are of interest to both sides.

The issue of intensifying interparliamentary relations and ensuring regular dialogues at the level of friendship groups and committees was also discussed. The importance of using parliaments to ensure the implementation of mutual agreements was emphasized.

The parties reached an agreement on the development of constructive cooperation within the framework of international organizations.

At the end of the meeting, the ambassador assured that he would use all his knowledge and potential to implement long-term plans and projects.
