Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia Terhi Hakala and the European Union Counter-Terrorism Coordinator Ilkka Salmi.

During the dialogue, various areas of relations between our country and the European Union were discussed, in particular, the development of inter-parliamentary relations, the protection of human rights and freedoms, cooperation in the field of countering terrorism and extremism.

The Chairperson of the Senate stressed that in recent years, dialogue between Uzbekistan and the European Union has intensified at various levels, and noted that EU delegations, in particular representatives of the European Council, the Commission of the European Union and the European Parliament, make working visits to Uzbekistan, and members of the government and parliament of our country carry out visits to the European Union.

- We support the continuation of the positive dynamics observed in the development of inter-parliamentary relations between Uzbekistan and the European Parliament. In this regard, an important place is occupied by the dialogue organized within the framework of the Committee of Parliamentary Cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union, - said Tanzila Narbayeva.

In turn, Terhi Hakala expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and noted that Uzbekistan is actively participating in the "European Union - Central Asia" format, while attaching great importance to expanding trade, economic and investment ties, attracting leading EU companies to Uzbekistan.
