Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva held a meeting in Geneva with the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Tulia Ackson.

Issues of strengthening relations between Uzbekistan and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, as well as organizational issues of jointly held events were discussed.

It was especially noted that in a short time Uzbekistan became an integral part of the Inter-Parliamentary Union. A striking example was the joint holding of the International Parliamentary Forum on SDGs in Bukhara and the 14th Summit of Women Leaders of Parliaments of the IPU Member Countries in Tashkent.

At the initiative of the President of the country Shavkat Mirziyoyev, next year the 150th anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union will be held in Uzbekistan.

The holding of such a large-scale event to develop parliamentary cooperation for the first time in the Central Asian region confirms the recognition by the world community of Uzbekistan as one of the centers of world politics.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to issues related to the organization and holding of the 150th Assembly and its relevant meetings in our country.

– We are glad that Uzbekistan is hosting this Assembly. Your country deserves such an honor. I am ready to make every effort to make the anniversary Assembly in Tashkent an unforgettable event in the history of the IPU and the entire global parliamentarism,” noted Tulia Ackson.

She also emphasized that following the results of the event in 2025 in Tashkent, the Organization plans to adopt a corresponding document defining the priority directions of the parliamentary movement in the world for the medium and long term.
