CERR: trade relations between Uzbekistan and the EAEU in January-June 2022

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Center for Economic Research and Reforms has prepared an infographic with the results of economic cooperation in January-June 2022 and development prospects within the EAEU.

The foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union in January-June 2022 increased by 24% compared to the same period last year and amounted to US$7 billion.

Of these, exports amounted to US$2.4 billion, imports - US$4.6 billion.

The share of the EAEU countries in the total foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan amounted to 28.5%, total export - 24.2%, total import - 31.5%.

Uzbekistan’s foreign trade indicators for the EAEU countries for January-June 2022 amounted to:

foreign trade turnover with Russia increased by 32.1% and amounted to US$4,065 million (58% of Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover with the EAEU countries), of which:

export - US$1,220 million;

import - US$2,845 million

Foreign trade turnover with Kazakhstan increased by 9.9% and amounted to US$2,109 million (30%), of which:

export - US$625 million;

import - US$1,484 million

Foreign trade turnover with Kyrgyzstan increased by 38.5% and amounted to US$589 million (9%), of which:

export - US$483 million;

import - US$106 million

Foreign trade turnover with Belarus increased by 3% and amounted to US$205 million (3%), of which:

export - US$48 million;

import - US$157 million.

In December 2020, Uzbekistan received observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union. It should be noted that the EAEU countries are among the main trade and economic partners of Uzbekistan. In this regard, the observer status in the EAEU will allow Uzbekistan to expand economic cooperation with them, taking into account the rules of the EAEU common market.

According to the MIFT, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and the EAEU countries increased by 75% over four years.

In 2020, the trade turnover of Uzbekistan with the Eurasian Economic Union amounted to US$9.83 billion. The share of the EAEU countries in the total exports of Uzbekistan is 30-31%.

In 2019, Uzbekistan exported goods worth US$9.42 billion, of which US$2.83 billion was supplied to the EAEU.

Traditionally, Uzbekistan exports to the EAEU products of the textile, metallurgical and chemical industries, as well as food, primarily fruits and vegetables. From the EAEU, Uzbekistan receives building materials, woodworking and chemical products, as well as processed food, including dairy and meat products.

With further integration with the EAEU, Uzbekistan will receive more favorable conditions when entering foreign markets, in particular when trading with Vietnam, Iran, Serbia and Singapore, which have concluded preferential trade agreements with the EAEU.
