Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Digitalization plays a crucial role in the process of modernization and development of the economy of Uzbekistan. An important role in digitalization is played by the development of the IT industry, as it directly contributes to the integration of the digital economy of Uzbekistan into the global digital economy.
A central role in the development of the IT industry in Uzbekistan is played by the creation of an IT Park in Tashkent, which has already achieved significant success in a short time of its existence.
If in 2020 the volume of services provided by IT Park residents was only 1 trillion soums, then in 2022 they provided services in the amount of 5.1 trillion soums. The number of IT Park residents has increased significantly from 411 in 2020 to 1122 in 2022. There was also an increase in the number of foreign companies registered in the IT Park, from 18 in 2020 to 165 in 2022. The number of employees at the IT Park has also grown significantly to 18,000 in 2022 from 6,000 in 2020.
The number of service exporters from the IT Park also increased from 62 in 2020 to 352 in 2022, and service exports amounted to US$140 million in 2022 compared to US$16 million in 2020.
The main share of service exports in 2022 was business process outsourcing (44%), followed by software development (48%), data processing (5%) and IT education (1%).
The main partner countries of Uzbekistan for the export of IT services in 2022 were the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Russia, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Sweden and Lithuania. The United States accounts for the largest volume of exports, amounting to US$113.2 million.
The rapid development of the IT industry reflects the successful efforts of Uzbekistan in the digitalization of the economy, confirming its desire for technological progress and innovation. Progress in this area is an important factor for the further development of the country and strengthening its position in the global digital economy.
