CER is Preparing the Law “On Renewable Energy Sources”
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The presentation of the Draft Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On renewable energy" developed by the Center for Economic Research (CER) was held on 15 February 2012 during the roundtable discussion.

The event titled “On the legal basis for the use of renewable energy sources" was organized jointly with the Parliamentary Group of the Ecological Movement of the Oliy Majlis, Coordinating Committee for Development of Science and Technology under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Center for Economic Research, The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the Association “Enterprises of alternative fuels and energy”, CER said.

The Round table discussion of the Draft Law “On renewable energy sources" delivered by the Head of the “Sectoral studies” Research Unit of CER T.Shadibaev, featured experts and practitioners in energy sector, entrepreneurs, and representatives of civil society.

Rational use of natural resources is an urgent task of the national agenda. The Economy of Uzbekistan focused on the use of traditional energy sources, is under the risk of running out of its traditional natural reserves. Integration and implementation of the new, ecological safe technologies on using renewable energy sources is becoming of higher importance.

As was highlighted during the event, there is an urgent need in adoption of the Law on alternative and renewable energy sources, studying international experience, integrating new technologies based on alternative energy sources into industrial sector, as well as creating incentives for companies using such source. Moreover, the Law aimed at bringing the level of use of renewable energy up to 7 percent in 2020 and to 20 percent by 2030.

A number of recommendations were made by the participants to improve the Law. The event is a part of a Round tables series on discussing the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On renewable energy”, as well as developing recommendations based on the wide participation of both national and international experts and practitioners in this field.

To date the Center for Economic Research has implemented a number of research projects, analyzing the prospects for transitioning to "green" economy, improving energy efficiency of buildings and the use of alternative energy sources.
