Central Election Commission registers Legislative Chamber Deputies

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  On 31 October, the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan registered 150 deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, elected on October 27.

Half of these deputies—75—were elected from single-member districts, while the other 75 were elected from party lists, marking the first use of a mixed electoral system.

Party Representation in the Legislative Chamber

Following the elections, the distribution of seats in the lower house of parliament for the single electoral district is as follows:

- Liberal-Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (UzLiDeP) — 26 mandates;

- Democratic Party "Milliy Tiklanish" — 14 mandates;

- People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan (PDPU) — 13 mandates;

- Social-Democratic Party "Adolat" — 12 mandates;

- Ecological Party — 10 mandates.

For the single-member districts, the distribution of mandates is as follows:

- UzLiDeP — 38 mandates;

- "Milliy Tiklanish" — 15 mandates;

- "Adolat" — 9 mandates;

- PDPU — 7 mandates;

- Ecological Party — 6 mandates.

Thus, among all 150 deputies of the Legislative Chamber:

- UzLiDeP represents 64 deputies (42.7%);

- "Milliy Tiklanish" — 29 (19.3%);

- "Adolat" — 21 (14%);

- PDPU — 20 (13.3%);

- Ecological Party — 16 (10.7%).

The Central Election Commission also reported that the composition of the lower house has been renewed by nearly 60%.

Gender and Age Composition of the Parliament

Women make up 38% of the newly elected deputies, a record high for Uzbekistan. The age distribution is as follows: 2 deputies are under 30 years old, 38.6% are between 30 and 45, 46.6% are between 45 and 60, and 13.3% are over 60 years old.

Ethnic Composition and Education

The deputies represent various nationalities: 5 Russians, 3 Kazakhs, 3 Tajiks, 2 Koreans, and 1 Turkmen and Kyrgyz, accounting for 12.7% of the total. All deputies hold higher education degrees, with 15% having studied abroad. In terms of professions: 30% are economists, 22% are lawyers, 18.7% are educators, 12% are engineers, 9.3% are medical professionals, and 8% are from cultural fields, business, and agriculture.

Results of Elections to Local Councils

Territorial election commissions announced the results of elections to local councils, where the composition has been updated by 59.2%. Women account for 32.6% of the elected deputies. The age distribution is: 4% under 30 years old, 39.5% are between 30 and 45, 40.8% are between 45 and 60, and 15.7% are over 60 years old.

Ethnic Composition and Qualifications

In local councils, 11.2% of representatives are from other nationalities, including 175 Tajiks, 111 Kazakhs, 33 Turkmens, 29 Russians, 21 Kyrgyz, and representatives of other ethnic groups. Among the deputies, 93.3% have higher education, with 36.2% being educators, 18.2% economists, 13% engineers, 7.6% doctors, 5% lawyers, and 20% from cultural fields, business, and agriculture.

The percentage of deputies with academic degrees is 4.4%, with 2.9% continuing their scientific work. Among those elected, there are 138 individuals with disabilities.

Voter Turnout

It is noteworthy that the voter turnout for the elections was 74.72%, or 15.027 million people out of over 19.9 million registered voters.
