Central Bank: the volume of bank turnover of cash in 2022 makes up 700.3 trillion soums

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In 2022, the volume of banking cash turnover in Uzbekistan amounted to 700.3 trillion soums, and increased by 38.1 percent compared to 2021. This was reported by the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.

In particular, the volume of cash receipts at the cash desks of banks amounted to 343.9 trillion soums, and the expenditure of cash is 356.4 trillion soums, the regulator notes.

If in 2022 the total amount of cash receipts at the cash desks of banks increased by 36.6 percent compared to 2021, then receipts from trade and services increased by 28.5 percent (36.1 trillion soums) and receipts from the provision of banking services - by 60.4 percent (43.3 trillion soums). There was also a decrease in the share of revenue from trade and services in the structure of total revenues by 3.0 percentage points.

In 2022, the total income from trade and services amounted to 259.0 trillion soums, of which 62.8 percent (162.7 trillion soums) in cash and 37.2 percent (96.3 trillion soums) through terminals that were credited to bank accounts (2021, respectively, 64.6 percent in cash, 35.4 percent - credited to bank accounts through terminals).

In 2022, the issuance of cash through the cash desks of banks (including ATMs) increased by 39.5 percent (100.9 trillion soums) against last year.

The main factor behind this growth was the increase in the size of cash withdrawals from bank cards by 54.4 trillion soums (an increase of 57.2% compared to 2021), and an increase in the volume of operations for the purchase of cash foreign currency by banks by 18.1 trillion soums (growth - 28.3%).

In particular, in 2022, funds received on bank cards increased by 1.8 times (by 253.9 trillion soums) compared to 2021, which amounted to 553.6 trillion soums.

Of which: 178.2 trillion soums - for the payment of pensions, benefits and wages, 182.3 trillion soums - transfers from card to card (including international money transfers), 112.5 trillion soums - these funds transferred in cash and from savings accounts to bank cards.

During this period, the population cashed out funds in the amount of 149.5 trillion soums, which amounted to 27.0 percent of the receipts on cards.

The difference between the funds received by banks and the demand for them was ensured by issuing additional funds into circulation by the Central Bank.

In particular, in 2022, the Central Bank issued an additional 16.2 trillion soums into circulation. sums of cash. Of these, 15.7 trillion soums fell on the period of a sharp increase in the need for cash in April-July.

The total number of banknotes decreased significantly due to the growth in the share of banknotes with a large denomination in the structure of cash in circulation.

In particular, if the share of banknotes in the structure of cash issued in circulation during 2022 100,000 soums in size in soums reached from 34.8 percent to 41.6 percent, the share of 20,000 soums - from 2.1 percent to 2, 3 percent, then the share of banknotes of 50,000 soums decreased from 34.2 percent to 27.5 percent, 10,000 soums - from 14.5 percent to 9.4 percent, 5,000 soums - from 12.7 percent to 6.5 percent , 1000 soums - from 1.4 percent to 0.9 percent.

It is known that, in July 2022, banknotes with a new denomination of 200,000 soums were issued into circulation and at the end of the year their share in the structure of cash amounted to 11.6 percent.

As a result of the increase in the volume of banknotes with a large denomination, the number of banknotes put into circulation decreased by 20.9 million pieces.

Reducing the number of banknotes in circulation serves to create convenience for the population in cash settlements, and for banks in cash operations, in particular, facilitating the processes of counting, sorting and packaging.

At the same time, during 2022, for use in retail trade and the provision of paid services to the population in settlements as a return of change (small money), new coins in the amount of 24.5 billion soums were additionally issued into circulation, and their share reached the general structure of cash 0.05 percent.

Also, in continuation of this work, on 26 December 2022, banknotes were issued in the form of coins of 1,000 soums.
