Central Bank: old-style banknotes and coins can be exchanged until 1 January 2022

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to the Regulations "On the procedure for exchange and withdrawal from circulation of 50 and 100 soum coins, as well as 50, 100, 200, 500 soum banknotes of the old sample of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan" from 1 July 2020 have ceased to be valid as legal payment:

banknotes of 200 soums of the sample of 1997;

500 v banknotes of 1999 sample.

Instead of these, since 2018, coins in denominations of 200 soums and 500 soums are being issued on an ongoing basis.

From 1 July 2020, banknotes with these denominations, as well as banknotes and coins in denominations of 50 sums and 100 soums, are accepted only by the settlement and cash centers of the territorial Head Offices of the Central Bank and are exchanged for banknotes in circulation.

According to the analysis and references, the population still has 50, 100, 200 and 500 soum banknotes and coins of the old model in a certain amount.

By the decision of the Board of the Central Bank from 9 January 2021, the deadline for the exchange of banknotes and coins of 50, 100, 200 and 500 soums of the old model for valid banknotes by the settlement and cash centers of the territorial Main Departments of the Central Bank until 1 January 2022.

Citizens can exchange the old-style banknotes and coins of 50, 100, 200 and 500 soums remaining in their hands for banknotes in circulation until 1 January 2022 in the settlement and cash centers of the Central Bank's Main Departments in the field.
