Central Bank of Uzbekistan ranks second worldwide in gold purchases

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In July, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan entered the top three global leaders in gold purchases, according to the World Gold Council.

The highest amount of gold in July was acquired by the National Bank of Poland, which purchased 14 tons, marking the highest figure since November 2023. Poland’s current reserves total 392 tons, of which 33 tons were acquired from April to July.

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan ranked second with 10 tons of gold purchased. Uzbekistan’s total reserves have reached 375 tons, showing the first increase compared to the beginning of the year.

Additionally, gold was purchased by Jordan and Türkiye (4 tons each), as well as Qatar and the Czech Republic (2 tons each).

The only major seller in July was the National Bank of Kazakhstan, which sold 4 tons of gold. As of early August, its reserves stood at 295 tons.

According to the World Gold Council, global financial regulators increased their reserves of the precious metal by 37 tons in July, three times more than in June. The total amount of purchases reached 41 tons, which is a 33% increase from the previous month.

The Central Bank of Uzbekistan reported that as of 1 August, the country’s gold reserves amounted to 376.3 tons, an increase of 12.4 tons compared to the beginning of July. The value of the gold reached US$29.15 billion, which accounts for nearly 78% of the country’s total international assets.
