Central Bank fines 10 banks in January
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In January 2025, the Banking Supervision Committee of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan held nine meetings, during which 44 issues were reviewed and corresponding decisions were made.
In the area of registration and licensing, 36 issues were addressed, including amendments to the charters of credit institutions (7 cases), registration of new microfinance organizations (11 cases), and approvals for ownership stakes in the charter capital of credit institutions (2 cases). The committee also reviewed the issuance of an audit qualification certificate for banking audits and approved candidates for executive positions in commercial banks, including members of the Supervisory Board and Management Board (14 cases).
Following the completion of its liquidation process, the credit union “START KAPITAL INVEST” was removed from the State Register of Credit Unions.
The committee also assessed the financial condition of credit institutions, compliance with prudential regulations, the implementation of Central Bank directives by commercial banks, and the results of inspections of banks, microfinance institutions, and payment organizations. Additionally, adherence to the Law “On Appeals of Individuals and Legal Entities” was reviewed.
As a result of these inspections, violations were identified. One payment system operator received a warning about potential sanctions for non-compliance with legal requirements and Central Bank directives. Ten banks that committed violations were subjected to financial penalties.
