Central Bank clarifies situation regarding cash withdrawal from international payment cards of individuals

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In connection with publications in the media regarding the withdrawal of foreign currency cash from international payment cards (IPC) in the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Central Bank explains the following.

In order to create conveniences and simplify the foreign exchange transactions of the population, starting from the third decade of August 2019, the practice of selling foreign currency in cash to individuals-residents through exchange offices of commercial banks was introduced.

However, in practice there are cases and risks of suspicious transactions related to the legalization of criminal proceeds, in particular, the withdrawal of foreign currency funds from the IPC of non-residents in the country by other persons.

Taking into account that, in accordance with the current legislation, all payments and payments in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan must be made in national currency - “UZS”, as well as taking into account international practice, from 1 October 2019, funds are withdrawn from the IPC through ATMs in the country exclusively in national currency.

Resident individuals have the right to withdraw cash from the IPC in foreign currency directly at the institutions of commercial banks without restriction with the presentation of relevant identification documents.

Unexpended by non-resident individuals funds in national currency converted through ATMs or exchange offices are exchanged for cash foreign currency in exchange offices in the manner prescribed by law.
