Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Citizens of Uzbekistan can apply for cash in banks, the press service of the Central Bank said.

The regulator noted that on 15 September, a software failure occurred in the retail payment system UZCARD, as a result of which all types of operations on bank cards were suspended, including acceptance of payments through trading terminals and cash withdrawal operations through ATMs.

The Central Bank said that regulator specialists and software developers have worked to restore the Uzcard payment system since the failure.

At the moment, the first stage of system recovery is completed - the database on balances on payment cards has been restored. The second stage - the restoration of payment terminals will be completed during the day.

The regulator underlined that citizens can apply to the banks servicing them to obtain the necessary cash amounts.

The Central Bank together with commercial banks carried out work to provide cash in the required amount in all branches of banks in all regions of the country.

The Central Bank will not ignore the incident. A change in the legislation will be initiated, giving the Central Bank rights and obligations to supervise and regulate the activities of retail payment systems in order to ensure their stable functioning.
