CBU: Prices, excluding fruit and vegetables, on average increased by 0.8% in June
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The results of regular observations of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan show that in June of 2018, under the influence of seasonal factors, namely the traditional cheapening of fruits and vegetables, process for observed in the selected group of consumer goods and services decreased by 2.7%. This was reported by the press service of the regulator.

At the same time, without taking into account fruits and vegetables, prices rose by an average of 0.8%. This indicates that during the period under review, the downward trend in prices was due to seasonality.

In particular, cheapening of tomatoes (66.7%), cucumbers (52.6%), potatoes (45.7%) and apples (35.8%) had a significant deterrent effect on the growth of the general price level.

However, for a number of other food products, which did not have such a pronounced seasonality, a certain price increase was observed. Thus, the price of mung bean increased by 14.8%, rice by 13.7%, buckwheat by 9%, mineral water by 8.2%, sugar by 2.4%, lamb by 2.1% and beef - by 1.7%.

It should be noted that at present the mass supply of new crops to the fruit and vegetable markets contributes to a significant excess of their supply over demand in the domestic food market.

At the same time, measures to improve the system of storing vegetables for storage, development of the infrastructure for their refrigerating storage and processing may become factors for creating additional demand for them during the ripening period, as well as restraining a sharp rise in prices for these products during off-season periods.

In addition, the expansion of imports of meat, rice and other food products, for which there is a structural imbalance in supply and demand, can make a significant contribution to stabilizing prices for them.

Strengthening of the exchange rate of soum and foreign trade liberalization, especially with bordering states, determined the preservation of a stable price dynamics for non-food products (a decrease of 0.7%).

At the same time, the rise in prices of services by 1.4% in June was mainly due to the increase in tariffs for dental services - by 13.1%, fare on the city bus by 11.6% and services for trucking of goods - by 3%.h
