CBU demands retraction from Russian media
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Central Bank of Uzbekistan demanded from Russia media to public retraction to the publication on suspension of currency operations for individuals and legal entities.

The regulator said that there were reports in Russia media, including in Russia-24 TV channel, that the Central Bank of Uzbekistan suspended currency operations for individuals and legal entities. The Central Bank said that the reports are fiction and provocation as no limitations for currency operations were introduced.

In line with the legislation of Uzbekistan, current international operations and related purchase and sales of foreign currency are conducted with no limitations, the Central Bank of Uzbekistan said.

The IMF mission, which visited in April-May 2015, confirmed firm foreign economic position of Uzbekistan and surplus of current international operation, enough level of gold-currency reserves, low level of state debt and sustainability of the banking system. This proves that there is no need to introduce limits for currency operation in Uzbekistan. Currently, the official exchange rate is 2,527 soums for US$1 and not 5,000 soums per US$1 as the Russian TV channel reported, the regulator said.

The statement said that the Central Bank of Uzbekistan demands publication of its statement in Russian mass media as an official retraction.
