Economy 31/10/2008 Carlsberg Uzbekistan starts production of Baltika beer

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Carlsberg Uzbekistan brewery brewed and bottled licensed Baltika No. 3 Classic. In line with the license agreement, Baltika No. 9 Strong will be also produced in Uzbekistan, brewing of which is planned till the end of 2008, the press release of the company said.

The first consignment of Baltika No. 3 came into shops and trade networks of Uzbekistan. Licensed production in the county allowed significantly decrease expenses, connected with transpiration and payment of excise duties and popular brands became more affordable for beer lovers in Uzbekistan. Recommended retail prices for Baltika No. 3 at glass bottle with 0.5 liter volume makes up 1,500 soums.

Baltika Brewery Company OJSC and Sarbast Plus JV (now UzCarlsberg JV LL) signed license agreement on production of Baltika brands in Uzbekistan in May 2008. From signing license agreement to launch of beer production, additional equipments were installed, personnel were recruited and trained and the distribution system in Uzbekistan was developed. Baltika plans to produce licensed beer at the volume, which will satisfy existing market demand.

License agreement envisages increasing number of licensed brands of Baltika in Uzbekistan in 2009.

Carlsberg Uzbekistan Brewery was commissioned in autumn 2007 and it is high technologic modern plant. The company is equipped with modern equipments of KHS (Germany), Alfa Laval (Belgium), GEA Grasso (the Netherlands), Loos (Germany) and others. The capacity of the plant is 1 million liters or 200 million glass bottles with the volume of 0.5 liters. About 400 people work in the venture. Currently, the brewery produces such brands as Sarbast® Original, Sarbast® Extra, Tuborg Green, Baltika No. 3 Classic.

It employs over 12,500 people in Russia. Baltika Brewery Company is the largest Russian beer exporter. Baltika products exported to over 50 countries of the world and the company’s share in export of Russian beer comprises 70%. Ministry of Economic Development of Russia named the Baltika as the Best Russian Exporter for seven times in a row.
