Economy 19/09/2007 CAREC experts approved preparation program for 6th ministerial conference


The 8th consulting session of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Transport Sector Coordinating Committee (TSCC) took place on September 6-9 in Manila, announced the Kazakh Ministry of Transport and Communication.

According to the press release, delegations of all CAREC participating countries (Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan) as well as representatives of international organizations, including the Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Monetary Fund, Islamic Development Bank, UNDP, World Bank have attended the event.

Representatives of CAREC member nations approved and adopted a program for preparing the 6th ministerial conference due on November 3 in Dushanbe, reads the statement. The participants have covered the suggested 2008-18 Transport Sector Strategy and drafted Trade Facilitation Strategy.

The first document outlines six key transport corridors, four of which run through Kazakhstan. The second embraces three components intended to save costs in the trade, further coherent reforms and upgrade the customs service, back up an integrated approach to trade facilitation via an interagency cooperation and PPP, it reads.

The Kazakh delegation suggested some adjustments to the drafts provided for in the investment program of the strategy.
