Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) analyzes the situation on the car market of Uzbekistan on a monthly basis.

The review of the automobile market of Uzbekistan is one of the research areas of the CERR, which presents the dynamics of sales of vehicles of both domestic production and foreign cars. The data is presented both for the reporting month and for the period from the beginning of the year to the reporting month. In addition, data for the same period last year are provided to track market dynamics.

In February, a drop in activity in the automotive market was recorded. The number of vehicles sold for the month amounted to 123.4 thousand, with a decline of 2.5% by January of this year and 3.8% by February of last year.

The situation in the primary and secondary passenger car market

The total number of passenger cars sold in February amounted to 116 thousand, having decreased by 1.8% over the month.

A noticeable decrease in sales was observed in Samarkand – by 18%, Namangan – by 15% and Ferghana regions – by 14%.

Compared to February 2022, the smallest decline in activity was noted, as the number of passenger car sales decreased by only 0.4%.

The primary market of domestic passenger cars and foreign cars

In February, there was a noticeable decline in sales in the primary passenger car market. Therefore, the number of registered passenger cars for the month fell by 6.4%. Compared to February 2022, the decline in the primary market was 4%.

A more noticeable drop was noted in the segment of new passenger cars of domestic production, for example, sales fell by 6.5% over the month.

In February, sales of new foreign-made passenger cars amounted to 2.4 thousand cars, down by 5.8%. However, compared to February last year, there was a significant increase of 65%.

The secondary market of passenger cars

92 thousand passenger cars were sold on the secondary market during the month, which is 0.5% less than a month earlier. Compared to February last year, there was an increase of 0.5%.

Electric vehicle market overview

In February, sales of passenger electric vehicles amounted to 746 units, which is 73% more than in January. The largest number of electric vehicles was sold in Tashkent – 549 units, Tashkent (70 units) and Ferghana (27 units) regions.

At the same time, compared to the same period last year, sales of electric vehicles increased by 99%.

If during the month sales of electric vehicles in the primary market amounted to 617 units with an increase of 2.3 times by January, then sales in the secondary market significantly decreased by 22% and amounted to 129 units.
