Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation from Bukhara region is taking part in the international folk art fair "International Folk Art Market", which takes place in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA, from 6 to 10 July this year. This was reported by the press service of the main department of tourism and cultural heritage of Bukhara region.

The delegation of Bukhara was welcomed by Santa Fe Mayor Alan Weber and Honorary Consul of Uzbekistan in America Carol Robertson Lopez.

Alan Weber, mayor of Santa Fe, in honor of the brotherhood of Bukhara and Santa Fe organized a business reception with the participation of representatives of the tourism sector, as well as heads of culture, sports, museums and hotel owners.

During the visit of the delegation of Bukhara to the United States, in cooperation with the Department of Cultural Affairs in Santa Fe, acquaintance with museums and galleries and exploring the possibilities of presenting the experience of Santa Fe in Bukhara, as well as meetings with Randy Randall, head of the Department of Tourism of Santa Fe .

The signing of a memorandum between the two countries in the field of tourism, culture, crafts and many other areas is expected.

When we asked the honorary consul of Uzbekistan in America, Carol Robertson Lopez, who was at the origin of this work, about the first steps in agreeing twinning between the cities of Bukhara and Santa Fe, she shared the following:

"In the distant 80s, when the cold war between the US and the USSR weakened and relations between the two countries rose to a new level, the US Open World Society studied the many similarities between the cities of Bukhara and Santa Fe and put forward a proposal for twinning.

This proposal was put on hold until it was supported by the Soviet government.

After independence, the Santa Fe party came several times to take official relations to the next level. However, only handicraft groups from Bukhara took part in the annual festival "International Fair of Folk Art" held in Santa Fe.

The Santa Fe Party has made an official visit to Bukhara almost every year for the past 10 years, each time inviting a delegation from Bukhara to Santa Fe. The purpose of this was to bring cooperation relations to a new level within the twinning of the two cities, to fully use their tourism opportunities, to establish a constant exchange of experience between educational areas and artisans, to establish effective cooperation on investment projects.

In order to carefully study these proposals, revive relations between the two cities and prepare future visits, as well as appropriate participation in the festival "International Fair of Folk Art", held annually in Santa Fe, the main Department of Tourism and Cultural Heritage of the Bukhara region and famous artisans are visiting in Santa Fe USA."
