British King Charles III crowned in London

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The coronation of British King Charles III took place today in London. The broadcast was conducted on the official YouTube channel of the Royal family of Great Britain. Celebrations on the occasion of the coronation will last all weekend and Monday, which is declared a public holiday throughout the country.

The official ceremony began with a solemn procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey. Observation platforms were installed along the entire route, as well as screens with a live broadcast of the ceremony. In total, about 4,000 military personnel were involved on the day of the coronation.

The coronation ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey.

The ceremony was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, and the king himself swore allegiance to the Anglican Church, of which he is the head. However, the ceremony was also attended by the spiritual leaders of the largest non-Christian churches (Jewish, Islamic, Sikh, Buddhist and Hindu), as the king intends to act as a "defender of the faith."

At the end of the ceremony, the Archbishop placed on Charles III the St. Edward’s Crown, made of solid gold in 1661. As a result, fireworks went off all over the country.

After an oath of allegiance to Charles III’s wife, Queen Consort Camilla was also anointed, crowned and enthroned.

The musical accompaniment of the coronation included the traditional music of the Greek Orthodox Church in memory of Prince Philip, the father of the new king.

About 2,200 people from more than 200 countries attended the coronation in Westminster Abbey. Also among the arrivals is the son of Charles III and the fifth in line to the throne, Prince Harry, who, along with his wife Meghan Markle, refused to be obligated members of the royal family. Megan herself did not come to the coronation, staying in the US with her children.

The ceremony was not attended by representatives of Russia, Belarus, Afghanistan, Venezuela, Iran, Myanmar and Syria. Russia was also not invited to the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

After the ceremony, the king and queen consort will return to Buckingham Palace and go out onto the balcony.

King Charles III is the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Officially, he spent 64 years in the status of Prince of Wales, and 70 years as Crown Prince. He became the record holder for the longest wait in line for the throne of Great Britain.

In his youth, he completed military service, since 2012 he has held the rank of field marshal, air chief marshal and admiral of the Royal Navy of Great Britain. According to polls in the second half of 2022, Charles III was only the seventh most popular member of the royal family among the British.

In 1976, Charles founded the Prince’s Trust, a charitable foundation to help the underprivileged. In addition, he began to support initiatives in the field of art, environmental protection, and the fight against climate change.

In 1981, he married Diana Spencer, who came from one of the largest aristocratic families in the country. Princess Diana was extremely popular in the media. The marriage produced two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. In 1996, Charles divorced Diana and married Camilla Parker-Bowles, whom he met before his first marriage. A year later, Princess Diana died in a car accident.

Charles III is also known for the fact that, unlike Elizabeth II, he actively intervened in government policy. For example, The Guardian published the "black spider" memorandums - letters from Charles addressed to British Prime Minister Tony Blair and members of his cabinet. In them, he tried to influence members of the government to save endangered fish species, prevent a tuberculosis epidemic in livestock, and even order weapons for troops in Iraq.

Also, Charles III was involved in the scandal with the publication in 2017 of the "Paradise Papers" - a package of documents about offshore investments of famous people. In addition, in 2022, The Times reported that the Charles Prince’s Foundation received a donation of three million euros in cash from the former Prime Minister of Qatar.
