Uzbekistan 02/07/2009 Breast cancer incidence rises sixfold in Uzbekistan in 30 years
Central Asia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to statistics from Uzbekistan’s health centres, 19 women in every 100,000 suffer from the breast cancer and the incidence of the disease has increased sixfold in the past 30 years. This especially applies to Khorazm, Surkhandarya and some other regions.

These figures were announced at the international forum "The role of public organizations in dealing with the breast cancer issue and medical aspects of resolving the problem", which was held in Tashkent.

The forum was aimed at consolidating efforts of healthcare agencies and public organizations.

This problem is of current importance in Uzbekistan like in other countries. Over 2,000 cancer respondents are registered in the country every year and over 11,000 sufferers are registered with health centres.

Expensive and lengthy treatment of the disease requires a special attention to the issues of medical and social rehabilitation. According to the main oncologist of the country, Prof M. Gafur-Okhunov, breast cancer is the first most common oncological disease in the country.
