Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During a plenary session, deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis discussed the issue of changing the boundaries of Samarkand city, as well as the Samarkand and Akdarya districts of Samarkand region.
The primary goal of these changes is to improve the architectural appearance of the city, enhance its attractiveness for both local and foreign investors, and make effective use of the region’s tourism potential. The project aims to develop modern business, financial, and tourism infrastructure.
According to the Presidential decree, from 2023 to 2030, the creation of the Directorate for the construction of a modern business center and the "Shirin" residential complex is planned. As part of this, the Cabinet of Ministers has proposed transferring 170 hectares of land from Samarkand district and 243 hectares from Akdarya district to the city of Samarkand.
The draft resolution was previously discussed at citizens’ assemblies in mahallas, at the Council of People’s Deputies at the regional and city levels, as well as at district councils. The cartographic image of the boundaries and classification of boundary lines have been approved.
To implement the objectives outlined in the draft resolution, the government has been tasked with carrying out a range of activities, including the creation of a modern "Shirin" business center, the construction of 254 multi-story buildings, 19 business and office centers, 50 social facilities, 89 shopping and entertainment complexes, and a historical town.
Additionally, the region will see the construction of 112 km of internal roads, pedestrian and bicycle paths, 6 km of elevated metro, two large bridges, and 7.2 km of internal communication tunnels. The project also includes the construction of 180 km of irrigation pipelines, 14 km of canals, and other irrigation structures.
Deputies believe that these changes will improve the living conditions of the population and expand the production and service sectors.
The draft resolution was approved by the deputies.
