Uzbekistan 23/05/2008 Belarus to assume presidency of CIS premiers’ council
Belarusian Prime Minister Sergei Sidorsky has said his country will propose new initiatives to develop the Commonwealth of Independent States, an alliance of ex-Soviet states.

The agenda of the meeting to be held in the National Library will address migration, economic cooperation and crime control. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko is expected to attend as well as Sidorsky.

A number of CIS prime ministers have already arrived in Minsk - Azerbaijan’s Artur Rasizade, Georgia’s Zurab Nogaideli, Kyrgyzstan’s Almaz Atambayev, and Tajikistan’s Okil Okilov. Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan have sent deputy premiers.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is expected to arrive on Friday, along with Vasile Tarlev and Yulia Tymoshenko, prime ministers of Moldova and Ukraine, respectively.
