Begemann and Emmrich win doubles crown at Tashkent Challenger
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Third seeded Andre Begemann and Martin Emmrich of Germany won their third doubles title of their career registering a 6-7 (2) ,7-6 (2),10-8 win over Frank Moser of Germany and Rameez Junaid of Australia winning the finals of the US$125,000 ATP Tashkent Challenger.

The German duo, who were behind most of the time in the match, broke the hard serving Frankey Moser in the 11th game in the second set to make a splendid comeback and take the crown. The Germans played right at the important points to clinch the title.

“It’s nice to win after being down most of the match, and we really feel sorry for Junaid and Moser," said the German duo after the match. The Germans who combined at the beginning of the year have reached 5 finals together and have won the third title together”.

“Me and Emmrich have played most of the junior tennis together and even shared a room , but he left to pursue his degree and I was playing singles without much success, I waited 5 years for him to come back before we started playing doubles,” said Begemann.

“Both of us were not doing too well in singles and then decided if we were to pursue tennis, and make some money and play at the top level we needed to play doubles and our journey started,” Emmrich added.

“We always knew we combined well, as we know each other so well and that is showing in our result, we are happy that we will be moving to top bracket and will be able to play in ATP Tour events now,” said Emmrich.

“We are glad to have come here, we heard about the country from some players , but this is completely different , it is a clean and beautiful city and the tournament has beaten all expectations in terms of organization,” the duo said while speaking to the media.

On being presented the tradition al Uzbek Chapan after the win by the Deputy Mayor of Tashkent Bahtyor Rahmanov, Begemann said: “It’s the first time that we have been presented with something like this, normally we get trophies, but we will remember this forever.”

The winners got US$7,750 and ATP 125 points for their win, while the finalist got US$4,500 and ATP 75 points.
