Nurmuhammad Valiev, a weaver, the laureate of the «Bazar-Art - Fall 2010» (Margilan):
- Margilan is the city of silks, there are many weavers’ dynasties there. Valievs Dynasty is one of the famous and it has been keeping up with the traditional art of textiles for five generations. My grandfather owned a mulberry plantation, where a full production cycle was run: raw material for textiles was made from the silkworm - yarn, wove cloth, then patterns were applied and clothing or household linens sewed. I'm the fourth generation of weavers, my sons - the fifth. We work with ready-made silk threads, working only manually. Our main products are silk, cotton, blended fabrics, and products made from them. For example, there is a very high demand for scarves with the national pattern, my youngest son Abdulmajid designs them. We have been participating in all «Bazar-Art» exhibition-fairs since 2007. You can track trends in art and fashion here. After one of these exhibitions, we started producing narrow scarves, developed designs and patterns for them: they are now very popular. We were winners in the nomination and received the grant for the development of our craft from the Fund Forum in 2008. In the same year we have received "Quality Mark" for our products at UNESCO meeting in Iran. Events like this, attention and support are very important to us.
