Bacterial solutions to help NGMK re-extract uranium
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Navoi Mining and Metallurgy Combine (NGMK) in cooperation with scholars is introducing technology on re-extracting uranium from spent blocks of underground leaching with use of bacterial solutions, head of Production-technical and innovation department of NGMK Shavkat Madaminov said.

The NGMK noted that it always pays attention to scientific-research and experimental-industrial works, development of new technologies and their introduction to production. In particular, the combine said it is working on increasing uranium production.

Shavkat Madaminov said that in cooperation with scientists of microbiologists of Uzbekistan Science Academy, it is introducing technology on re-extracting uranium from spent blocks of underground leaching with use of bacterial solutions.

He said that the introduction of bacterial leaching will allow to increase coefficient of extracting and substance of uranium at used wells, increase mining, continue exploitation of wells and blocks, which will decrease prime cost.

Madamimov added that that re-extraction of uranium from spent blocks of underground leaching (70% or higher) will rose 2.4 times.

He added that NGMK is increasing scientific-research and innovation projects implementation. In 2009, the combine implemented 5 projects for 4.5 billion soums and last year it realized over 90 projects for 8 billion soums.

He said that main directions of these projects are open and underground mining works, technology, geo-technologies and machinery. He added that implementation of these projects allows NGMK to save twice more compared to the projects’ cost.
