Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Minister of Natural Resources of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov met with President of the UN Economic and Social Council Lachezara Stoeva.

At the meeting, the President of the UN Council was provided with information on the socio-economic reforms carried out in the country under the leadership of the head of state Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the development of an active civil society in decision-making, ensuring gender equality and involving young people in the processes of state governance, which are priority areas in achieving the UN sustainable development goals for the period up to 2030.

Lachezara Stoeva supported the aspirations of the Central Asian countries to consolidate efforts in the joint solution of social, environmental and climate challenges, thereby demonstrating a commitment to regional integrity in the international arena. It was noted that the election of Uzbekistan as a member of the ECOSOC Commission on Science and Technology Development will be a good opportunity to promote the initiatives of both the country and the region as a whole.

To maintain consistent measures to accelerate social, environmental and economic development, the opening of the Central Asian University for Environmental Research and Climate Change is timely.

The President of the UN Council has been invited to attend high-level UN events such as the 21st Executive Body Meeting of the Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD CRIC-21), the 25th General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the 14th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS COP-14), which will be held in October this year in Samarkand.
