Prior to appointment, Azim Akhmedkhodjaev worked as the First Deputy chairperson of the Executive Board of the National Bank of Uzbekistan for Foreign Economic Activity (NBU).
At this post, he replaced Qahramon Aripov, who left his post in February 2016.
Asaka Bank was created in 1995 and it is the second largest bank of Uzbekistan. Its main shareholders are Ministry of Finance (over 54%), Uzavtosanoat (13%), Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan (13%), Almalyk Mining and Metallurgy Combine, Navoi Mining and Metallurgy Combine, Bukhara Refinery and Uzbekistan Temir Yollari.
Aggregate assets of the Asaka Bank made up over 8 trillion soums as of 1 April 2016, while aggregate capital – 955.7 billion soums.
