Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The situation on Uzbekistan's automobile market in October is marked by a general decrease in sales, especially in the passenger car segment, with a more noticeable decline on a year-over-year basis. At the same time, the electric vehicle (EV) segment is showing consistent growth in activity.
The Center for Economic Research and Reforms of Uzbekistan regularly provides analysis of the state of the automobile market in the country.
In October, vehicle sales amounted to 102.3 thousand units, which is 7% lower than the previous month. A more significant decline is observed on a year-over-year basis, with a decrease of more than 44%.
Passenger Car Segment
In the passenger car segment, 95.4 thousand units were sold last month, representing a 6% decline compared to the previous month, and a more noticeable year-on-year decrease of 43.3%.
Regionally, the most significant sales drops in this segment were recorded in Tashkent city (18.4%), Ferghana (17%), and Andijan (14.4%) regions.
Primary Market for Passenger Cars
In the primary market for passenger cars, sales decreased by 15% compared to the previous month, with 6.2 thousand fewer cars sold. On a year-over-year basis, the activity decreased by 21.8%.
Sales of domestically produced new cars decreased by 20% to 30.2 thousand units. The year-on-year decrease was 22%.
Foreign Passenger Car Segment Grows
The foreign passenger car market saw a surge in sales in October. Activity in this segment increased by 35% compared to the previous month, with a total of 4.7 thousand foreign cars sold. However, compared to October of last year, sales dropped by 20%.
Secondary Market for Passenger Cars
The secondary market for passenger cars in October showed slower activity and a more pronounced year-on-year decline in sales volumes.
In October, 60.4 thousand used passenger cars were sold, which was 23 units fewer than the previous month. Compared to the same period last year, sales were halved.
Electric Vehicle Market
The passenger electric vehicle segment continues to demonstrate record growth in activity. In October, sales increased by 20% compared to September, reaching 5.1 thousand electric cars, up from 4.24 thousand units in September and 1.7 thousand units in August.
Regional analysis shows strong growth in the electric vehicle segment, with the largest increase in sales observed in Namangan and Ferghana regions, as well as in Tashkent city.
Sales of electric vehicles increased by 87.5% year-on-year, corresponding to an increase of 2.3 thousand units.
