Festival of Traditional Culture Asrlar Sadosi is organized by Fund Forum in association with the UNESCO Country Office in Uzbekistan.
The second day of the festival started with folk festivities and national games – kurash competitions, ram fights and ‘Uloq-kupkari’ horse riding game.
‘Uloq-kupkari’ is a horse game of Central Asian nation. ‘Uloq-kupkari’ is organized during festivities and holidays. The goal of the game is to take “uloq” (body of goat) to kazan (final point) and the rider, who accomplishes this mission, wins the competition.
The competition at Asrlar Sadosi attracted the best riders from all Uzbekistan. Among them were masters of sport, winners of Asian Games and amateurs. The winners received various prices lik carpets, TV-sets, mobile handsets, TV-players, DVD-players, camel, horse and sheep.
Later, the ram fights were held within the festival. The fights had similar rules as cockfights. The rams fight each other in special zone. The owners of the winner rams received sheep, horses and camel as a gift.
The second day of the event also hosted National Dress Festival. During the festival, some 15 collections of traditional and modern costumes were presented. The costumes were produced by designers from Bukhara, Samarkand, Tashkent, Ferghana and Andijan.
Among the collections, there were also costumes with images of petroglyphs from Sarmishsai Gorge.
Festival of National Cuisine was held within the Asrlar Sadosi 2013. Sixteen chiefs from all regions of Uzbekistan participated at the festival.
During the event, they cooked pilaf, sumalyak, halim, kazan kebab, mashkichira, tandir kabob and other traditional dishes.
Uzbekistan’s MEROS Association of Antiques in partnership with UK-based Christie’s held an auction of contemporary paintings of Uzbek artists.
Hosted by British auctioneer James Lees, the auction presented paintings by famous Uzbek artists such as Murod Qoraboyev, Jamol Usmonov, Gayrat Ibragimov, Diyor Razikov, Bobur Ismoilov, Sanjar Jabborov, Hurshid Ziyokhonov, Asliddin Isayev and Doima Rahmonbekova. The auction was staged in collaboration with Christie’s for a second time.
The funds, raised from the auction, will be used to finance archaeological research and excavations overseen by MEROS Association of Antiques, which will help to shed light on new data and facts relating to Uzbekistan’s historical and cultural legacy.
The Sixth Festival of Traditional Culture “Asrlar Sadosi” ended with gala-concert, which was attended by Uzbek celebrities – Sahro and Zarba groups, Ziyoda, Zulayho Bayhanova, Bakhtiyor Rakhmanov, Nilufar Usmanova and others.
Turkish singer Mustafa Sandal and Chinese folk collective Jiangnan Si-Zhu were the guests of the gala-concert.
The gala concert was wrapped with the ceremony of awarding of laureates “Asrlar Sadosi”. Author of the project Asrlar Sadosi Gulnara Karimova handed over diplomas to the laureates.
