Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- FIFA President Joseph S Blatter took time out from his busy schedule to speak to a select group of international journalists after the 23rd AFC Congress. Read excerpts from the round-table conference, which covered a range of football issues.

ELECTION OF MOHAMED BIN HAMMAM TO FIFA EXCO
“I like close votes as it shows that football’s democratic system is working. It was a big campaign. I want to see a united Asian football community. The Congress was done in the correct manner and no yellow card was needed. It was generous of Bin Hammam to give Kuwait their voting rights. Asian football is in safe hands.”

FIFA VICE-PRESIDENT
"What we have to do, and what AFC have to do, is make sure in future that all presidents of confederations are members of the FIFA executive committee in the position of vice-president. Whoever is president of FIFA is better to have vice presidents as heads of confederations - it is easier to work together and it’s better for the good of the game.”

ASIA’S WORLD CUP BID
“I don’t think a unified bid will help Asia. The deciding authority is the 24-member FIFA Executive Committee. (For a bid to be successful) it is important to have connections with the continents. A lot of (Asian) countries have put in their bids and this shows the interest in FIFA’s No 1 competition.’

AFC CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
“The AFC Champions League has started well. We need a concentration of the best players (for a strong competition) and I think the AFC Champions League is on the right track. The FIFA Club World Cup shows up the difference between clubs (from different continents).”

2010 FIFA WORLD CUP
“The South Africa World Cup is nothing else but justice for African football. They ( Africa ) have given us so many great coaches, referees, players but their candidates for the FIFA World Cup have always been rejected. That is why FIFA brought in the rotation policy. South Africa is the best organised country in the continent with a big population of 40 million. It will be a great World Cup.”
