Asian Chess Federation President Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifah Al Nahyan announced at a press conference for the 2nd Annual Asian Chess Excellence Awards that the Man of the Year Award goes to President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov.

Uzbek leader was awarded “in recognition of his inspiration to build the National Specialized Children Chess School of Olympic Reserves, for his vision to see the chess as a pedagogical tool for nation building, promoting education and supporting children sports, preserving rich cultural and traditions of the country, strengthening friendship and cooperation among nations.”

Asian Chess Federation established Asian Chess Excellence Awards in 2014. The first awarding ceremony was held in the UAE in 2014.
